Hotel Del Coronado, also called The Del, is a magnificent National Historical Landmark.  Built in 1887, this wooden beach resort, with its eye-catching red rooftops, possesses a late Victorian Style architecture.

Like years prior, The Del remains a luxury hotel on Coronado Island.  On the backside brim of the resort, the Pacific Ocean greets visitors.  This beach is also an award winner.

The history The Del brings is remarkable.  They have hosted numerous guests such as: Thomas Edison, Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth and Charles Lindbergh.

Here is a partial list of former presidents who visited:  Franklin D. Roosevelt, William McKinley, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

The Del, was used for the filming of Some Like It Hot, starring Hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe, and her sidekicks, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.

While you take in the beaty of The Del, do stroll through their fantastic shops. If you've got the kids with you, take them to Spreckels Sweets & Treats.  They are known for their old fashioned candy and giant lollipops.  Other candies you'll find there are  fudge, marshmallow fellows and peppermint bark.  During the winter holidays, the gingerbread men dipped in chocolate are the best!

Nearby, The Toy Castle is a toy wonderland for kids, brimful of games, dolls, books, stuffed animals and more.

For the adults, you'll have your fair share of apparel shops such as, The Signature Shop, Bradys and Kate's.

If you ‘re hankering for something that sparkles, visit Del Coronado Jewels.

There are nearly 20 shops at The Del, and each one is great, including their specialty stores and boutiques.

Don't forget to bring your camera, because The Del offers some amazing backdrops for photos.

Whether you're a guest at The Del or even visit for the day, you'll enjoy the beauty and history that it offers.
