JAZZ IT UP

Cruise and  Jazz lovers take note, Istanbul’s got yet another funky sail that’s sure to get the wind back in yours...

The city’s Jazz Festival’s in full swing and is expected, as it does every year, to continue throughout the warm month of July.

New this year and sure to draw huge crowds is the Jazz Boat. Departing at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 6, from the Kabatas embarcadero aboard one of the IDO steamboats, the 90-minute cruise along the famed Bosphorus will head to Anadol Kavagi 8*--the last Asian leisure port, where it’ll take off once again some two hours later for the return trip.

Swing to the tunes of Coolbone and the Istanbul Saxophone Quartet, as you discover--for the first or the umpteenth time--the dizzying variety of sites along the straits.

ESSENTIALS

General admission tickets are 35TL; 25TL for students. Get yours through  Biletix

Do arrive at least an hour before departure to ensure an outside spot up on deck. To get to the embarcadero, hop on the funicular that departs from Taksim Square every couple of minutes. For great eats once at Anadolu Kavagi head for Yosun

STRICTLY SPEAKING

Music--müzik (pron. meuzik)

*Sorry... Turkish fonts don’t translate well in posts. KAVAGI should be spelled with a soft "G" and an undotted "I", which is pronounced KAVAHUH....
