La Strada di Vino - Colli Euganei Top Wine Makers
The area just outside of Venice is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Venice life. Particularily just south of Padova in the Colli Euganei (Euganean Hills). The Euganean Wine Road leads from one hill to the next and twists and turns through the protected natural area of the Euganean Hills Regional Park. Many of the wine producers in this area will welcome you into their vineyards and let you sample their entire product line from Frizzante white to deep, rich reds. Some of the wines are special combinations of grapes that are only combined in this region. The Wine Road itself boasts proudly of the DOC guarantee that all manufactures strive to achieve in this area. Some of the wine makers produce Prosecco, but this will not come with the DOC label as it is only guaranteed from the area near Treviso, although the process and grape selection is the same.
I had the opportunity to take a weekend excursion to this area and to talk with some of the familes that have produced wine for generations in this area. Below I have listed some of my favorite wine producers through this small region. These are the producers that I found to be the most polite, the most willing to give information, and the the wines that I enjoyed the most. All in all, these places are where I enjoyed my time.
