TONIGHT: Germany vs. Turkey @ 8:45pm
As you may have read from my previous post, the Euro Cup is at large with throngs of fans waiting for this upcoming match: Germany vs. Turkey.
Germany has a very large Turkish population, so along with the Germans being out by the thousands, so will the Turks. This game is incredibly important as it deciphers who will be moving on to the Finals! Tensions are high and everyone will be out in numbers to show their support. There are plenty of ways that you can get in on the actions as well! Stop by any public viewing area where you can watch the game with a few thousand of your closest friends: Chinese Tower, See Haus, Olympia Park or simply one of the many restaurants and bars around the city. After the game, head over to Leopoldstraße to watch the festivities! I'm rooting for Germany, of course, but no matter who wins, there will be a party afterwards.
Be careful though, as sometimes there are those drunken fools who may want to pick a fight because their team lost/someone stepped on their new Pumas. If you see any of that happening, quickly go into the opposite direction as there will immediately be a swarm of Riot Polizei descending on the mania, and you can bet that they will arrest anyone who looks like they're involved. With such a large crowd, they don't have the time to focus on you trying to explain that you're not a part of it, no matter how many large hand gestures or how slowly you speak! Yet, it most likely will be perfectly fine as the Polizei will be blocking off streets and keeping order.
Head over to a kiosk to pick up a German flag, or shop at one of the many shops selling Germany t-shirts, Team Jerseys etc. I will be heading over to Esprit today after work to pick up a t-shirt for sure!
GO DEUTSCHLAND!!
