Marianne backpacked in Europe long before backpacking had been invented. It was difficult to buy a backpack in those days so she used an old one found in the attic. She thumbed her way through the British Isles and learned English at the same time....

What's on: The House of Orange

Location: Amsterdam Historisch Museum, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 357  

The exhibition, The House of Orange, gives a survey of the love / hate relationship of Amsterdam with the Royal family. Amsterdam was full of enthusiasm at Queen Wilhelmina's investiture in 1898, but divided over the marriage of Princess Beatrix and Claus van Amssberg in 1966 and emotional about The Kiss on the balcony of the Royal Palace on Dam Square at the occasion of the marriage of Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima on 2 February 2002.
